 Lead and Coal Improvements

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Lead And Coal SignAUI was awarded the $26.5 million Lead and Coal Improvements contract by the City of Albuquerque in August, 2010. Construction activities commenced in November and the 17-month project is targeting March 2012 for completion. The scope of work for the heavily-traveled, one-way arterials includes improvements to the roadways, storm drain system, waterlines, sanitary sewer lines, and landscaping. One notable, highly-anticipated roadway improvement includes the Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) that in the future will tie all traffic signals together and allow rapid changes to accommodate changing traffic conditions.

The Vision statement for the project stakeholders is, “Lead and Coal Avenues will be beautifully landscaped, environmental sensitive, and neighborhood-, bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly.”

I-10 Las Cruces to Texas State Line

Las Cruces, New Mexico

I10 Las CrucesAUI was subcontracted by Mountain States Constructors, Inc. to assist in the new construction and rehabilitation of I-10 from Las Cruces to the Texas state line. The overall project scope involved the lane expansion of I-10 northbound and southbound lanes from two to four lanes. AUI’s portion of this project included the construction of a 4,800LF permanent concrete wall barrier, a new Gateway Sign for visitors entering the state of New Mexico, and construction of a 42,000SF precast concrete soundwall held in place by drilled tiers. Scheduling conflicts were kept to a minimum as the project progressed smoothly with AUI placing over 13,000LF of culvert pipe extensions in addition to approximately 20 drop inlets of various sizes, to provide the necessary drainage for the lane expansion of I-10.
