January 11, 2016—
AUI has started construction on the Catwalk Trail Reconstruction Project.
The Central Federal Lands Division of the Federal Highway Administration selected the team of AUI, Bohannan Huston, Inc. (BHI), and NV5, Inc. (NV5) for the $4.6M design-build Project. BHI is serving as the design lead and NV5 is providing geotechnical engineering, environmental permitting, and testing services.
The Catwalk Recreation Area, five miles east of Glenwood, NM in the Gila National Forest, has been closed since sustaining heavy flood damage in 2013. The Project consists of design and construction of trail improvements, three pedestrian bridges, and the suspended metal works structure along the Catwalk Trail. The scope of work includes:
- Restoration of the CCC (primitive) trail and replacement of the suspended metal works, including the hanging catwalk structure and viewing platform areas
- Rehabilitation and improvement of the parking lot
- Repair of landslide damage to both the accessible and primitive trails
- Construction of a truss bridge connecting the two trails
The Project is scheduled to be completed by May 27, 2016, in time to re-open the area for the Memorial Day weekend.
