Cedar Crest Drainage Improvement Project

NMDOT Project Control Number A301441 on NM 14 was a drainage improvement project. The main purpose of the project was to eliminate and/or reduce the erosion that would come off the steep slope immediately adjacent to NM 14 during rain events. The aforementioned drainage pattern had caused the maintenance department problems for decades especially during monsoon season. The designer’s solution for this drainage pattern was to install a post and precast panel system to catch the water flows and direct them into a storm drain. Atop this post and panel system the slope would be protected thru the use of colored shotcrete. Not only was this project fully functional upon completion meeting all desired performance criteria it is also very aesthetically pleasing.
